Top Gear Top Tip - if you just park in valet and point out that you are a paying customer of the place in question, 9 times out 10 no one cares.

DFW has a couple of really good high-end restaurants but is a wasteland for food in general.

Just in Texas:

Mexican? Laughable! Better in Austin and San Antonio

Steak and Fish, better in Houston

BBQ, Lakewood is fantastic, but Austin has best BBQ in world

Asian, better in Houston by a thousand miles

Mom and Pop / dives, again Houston

Avant Garde, better in Austin and Houston

Cabrito, Brady

Anybody else that names off an entire continent worth of food as 'Asian' with nothing else describing it is not someone whose opinion is worth anything.

I use "Asian" to note that there is a lack of high quality food in DFW that is derived from any country or culture in all of Asia.

Well i do tend to agree a little bit. There is quantity but little quality. Surprising to say, that because the best Asian food i found in Tyler and not in Dallas was quite a surprise!

Agree with the OP here, being from the northeast and having easy access to NYC, Philly, and DC. The food here is good, but not on the level of NYC. I've come to live w that, but what I can't find comparable here is the dining experience as a whole. Many of the places here just lack that X factor (the ambiance, buzz/energy, location, clientele). The food at a restaurant may be great, but driving to a strip center to experience it while seeing a patron or two in shorts eating next to me, under horrible lighting, is disappointing. Depends on the restaurant, of course, but after almost 2 yrs here, it's not easy to find places that match the vibe you get at the nicer spots in the NE.

Oh, and still looking for a great Italian restaurant and middle eastern tapas.

Luckily, we get to go to NY/DC/Philly at least 1x a mth to get our fix.

Comparing NYC to Dallas is wildly unreasonable.

What about Chicago or LA?

Even New Orleans and The Bay area?
I wouldn't even say its above Las Vegas or San Diego either
