I haven't read this entire thread. Just chiming in as a former Austinite who is living in a suburb of Baltimore, I just don't know what I believe. The "food" in the NE suburbs is HORRENDOUS. All chain restaurants of the worst kind (Applebees makes people THRILLED) serving the most bland food you have ever tasted. One weekend in Dallas I was back in the motherland. I had ENCHILADAS. I had HOMEMADE CORN TORTILLAS. I had BREAKFAST TACOS. People here don't even know what that is. My friends here don't know what cilantro is. That could just be small town/NE suburbia but I have to say Dallas killed it compared to here. Not as great as Austin, but let's face it.....that's a hard thing to live up to!

I wouldn't even say its above Las Vegas or San Diego either
Then I think, as everyone else has said, you're simply not going to the right places.

Or maybe yall are delusional and don't know what high quality food is.
I've lived in Dallas for 10 years, been numerous places. Try a new restaurant up to 3 times a week sometimes. Still haven't been blown away anywhere.

To the OP:

How about being specific?!

You just make wild claims and the only evidence you deliver is the reputation of other world class cities. Bizarre.

I'll state that you simply don't know the Dallas restaurant scene. 10 years living here means nothing if you just ate at Olive Garden.

Valet on a rainy night is great but they get so backed up leaving you pay for not getting wet witih time waiting. The older I get the more I use them I must admit unless the option is close too.

I measure a restaurant scene not by just how many great high end restaurants there are, although those are vitual, but by who broad and wide and accessible the really good mid market restaurants there are. Houston is the best place for this by a wide measure. I think Dallas beats back east on this measure. For every really good restaurant in NYC metro or Pa, there were 10 marginal ones and a couple of terrible ones. Yet the terrible stayed in business some how my only guess is zoning. There were not that many restaurants im some high scale suburban areas compared to Houston or Dallas.

Anybody know of a good breakfast place in the DFW area?

New Orleans had fantastic breakfast restaurants. Philadelphia had great breakfast restaurants. Restaurants that had lines before they opened, but were always worth the wait.

All the places I've found here that review "well" that I've tried are just cheap. Lots of cheap food at a cheap price.

Lots of good european and asian foods in Philadelphia (Italian, German, Polish). Center city (Philadelphia proper) has a Chinatown, and Reading Terminal Market. HUGE variety of good foods in Reading Terminal Market.

Check out Conshohocken Diner if you ever get in that area for good breakfast.

Dalessandro's steaks in Manayunk for a great cheesesteak.

We like Bread Winners in Dallas and Poor Richards in Plano. A friend swears by Smoke for brunch.
