We have an existing covered patio of about 10 x 10 and an extension of 10x8 uncovered. We are thinking about extending the patio with cover and do some overlay and a grill.

Anyone has experience with this type of projects and have lessons learned?

Any suggestions on type of overlay (stamp vs flagstone)?

decouple any new work from the existing. That will save you from most problems and also alleviate most permitting requirements though definitely verify with your local municipal agency before you do anything.
also, anything poured will crack so if you intend to change/add a flooring material/surface, I'd suggest going with something forgiving (flagstone, decomposed granite, etc). Lastly, if you are new to the area, know that we are susceptible to rather strong hail/wind so plan whatever covering accordingly.

Thanks jdallas.

One thing I learned is that if you are building a nrew home and running a gas stub outside for future use then put in a bigger pipe. Otherwise you will be limited to the usage and the location if you want to move the gas line around.
