OP,
I feel like we're missing something here. Did you say that your wife is expecting? If so, that would make more sense why you don't want a pool and are concerned about bedroom layout. Will she be staying home? Are you about to lose her income? Just curious.

A part of doing business back then was that you would have discussed options.
Which reiterates how ridiculous this stuff is right now.
Yeah, 2009 wasn't anything like now. We offered $10k under asking for a house and asked the seller to pay for closing which was about another $10k. They countered and we walked. They called back an hour later and accepted our offer. We didn't have any issues with appraisals but I'm guessing they would've offered to pay it to keep the deal.

Completely anecdotal, but my grandmother put her house on the market in central Plano earlier in the month. It is a 3/2, priced in the upper $200s. As you can imagine, it was a feeding frenzy. That being said, all but one offer (8 or so total) were from people from DFW. There were a couple of flippers, a young couple moving from McKinney to closer to work, a UTD professor, and 2 older couples downsizing, etc. The one person not from DFW was from Houston.

I know that's not the case for most, but it was really interesting to me to see that almost everyone was from DFW. That being said, I don't know how many were natives.

And that's most of the reasoning why this thread and rant are even happening.
Where did you ultimately end up?
And doesn't it feel good to not be sweating this stuff?

There's nothing wrong with ranting. It can be a good thing, as it helps to give a voice to the opinions and sentiments of the locals of this area. Without rants like this, people may not realize how the market makes reality difficult for many.

I ended up in McKinney, building a new construction home. Getting new construction is far easier than buying an existing home in this market, in my opinion. You can also choose the floorplan you want and the options you want. Once I signed that contract, and again when I closed, I did feel a load drop from my shoulders. I'm definitely glad to be a home owner now and not have to deal with this kill or be killed market.

Probably not many. I meet very few of them these days.

Go for south Dallas instead. Embrace the diversity and cheap houses.

Well...going to give this another college try tomorrow.
We are checking out a couple of homes tonight.
Got a good feeling about one of these.

I doubt i'll be back for a while...but i'll report back with the outcome.

I know 27 families that have moved from Murphy to Murphy. Not counting one family that is on house #4 I'm Murphy. Add in folks from other parts of the East cluster and it's double that.
