A neighbor recently had their patio screened in, and I was very impressed with the results. I have a 20' x 18' covered patio with a brick fireplace which hardly gets used in the nicest months of the year because the bugs eat us up. It sounds like the cost will be in the $3500-$5000 range.

Has anyone had this done, and are you happy with the results?

I haven't had that done, but if you can afford it and it would improve the quality of your life, I would.

I have been contemplating to getting one but its too hot to sit outside in the summer. Winter there are almost no bugs outside so no point of having a screen.

I did it and it was worthwhile. Now I live in mostly a bug less place.

I would say before you do this, to look into some commercial/heavy duty mosquito traps. We live on a golf course, so bugs of all types were an annoyance. Our lot is 140 x 75, we put two Dyna Traps, one for each corner, in our backyard, and it cut down on the mosquitoes dramatically. We still get the occasional bite, but nothing that prevents us from enjoying the backyard at dusk. We already had conduit run to those corners for landscape accent lighting, so it was easy to put a plug in for the dyna traps. Much less costly than creating a screened enclosure for us.

It’s far cheaper to solve the bug issue.

I used to live in a house with one of these and it was a great place to sit except in the very hottest and very coldest times.

The fact that mosquitoes fly kind of negates anything other than mechanical means of keeping them away. Screens are effective.

Sunrooms get more use than screened rooms, not for only for humans but for pets and potted plants too.

You negate them with other things that fly and make it difficult for them to fly, while solving the issue of where they’re breeding.

Bat Boxes on the property will eliminate thousands
Fans on your porch not only makes it more comfortable for you, but deters them as they’re weak fliers.
Get militant about standing water sources.

People always say this, but I've got a ceiling fan on my porch and they still attack when it's on. I have no standing water, I guess I can become 'standing water Batman', and attack my neighbors standing water vigilante style. I don't have bats, but rarely see them, so I'm guessing they don't really like the local conditions, so I'm not sure they'd stay if I got a bat box.
