No, you don't OWE them anything, but the way I look at it, supporting the local restaurants are helping keep the business afloat. That means the employees still have jobs and the owner won't have to close the restaurant down. The restaurants are having a very tough time now - food suppliers can't fill the orders the restaurants need for their menu. Food deliveries often aren't complete and prices of available groceries are way up.

I don't see much difference between donating to a food bank and supporting your local restaurant. It's helping your fellow man. One or two take-outs a week can make a big difference in their survival if more people do it.

I work as a frontline provider at one of Dallas' biggest hospitals. Just had our daily COVID hospital report. We have the highest number of cases in our hospital since this pandemic started. And of note, all but one of the positive cases that was admitted from yesterday was actually community spread patients and not from a nursing home/long term care facility

Come on Dallas, this is getting embarrassing. Stop drag racing and partying in the park. Wash your hands, wear a mask and social distance. Most of us are going back to work and it would be nice if everyone would work together. We can do it.

Plano based JCPenney is now bankrupt. I don't see this ending well. I see Chapter 7 in the future.

I did not want to interview with them 5+ years ago during a job search because I thought they'd be bankrupt and closing imminently. They've survived far longer than I expected.

JCP had paid “NYC” salaries since they moved here from NYC in the late 1980’s. It was their talent retention strategy up until the last 2-3 year.

As with Neiman’s, it’s really the crushing debt from the Ron Johnson era that led to bankruptcy. Even coming out of the Great Recession, JCP bounced back moderately well. They also used to own a ton of their real estate - including the JCP office - which helped them control costs compared to commercial leases. But they had to sell / mortgage everything to borrow their way out of the Ron Johnson debacle.

Bottom line- the Board of Directors should be sued for corporate negligence, going back as far as Rob Johnson debacle and straight up to giving $10 million of “retention” bonuses to the C-Suite this week....the optics are terrible. Can’t imagine what employee morale is like right now.

They won’t find a buyer, not when there are more attractive brands that can get scooped up for “dimes on the dollar” right now. Maybe their creditors will work with them but I agree....headed for a Ch 7 and then possible rebirth as just jcp.com.

Any news on Neiman's? I would hate it if the new Clearfork Fort Worth store closed. Lovely store.

My guess is NorthPark is the only “safe” NM in the DFW area.

From a financial perspective only, downtown Dallas would be the first one on the chopping block. It’s hard to be sentimental when you’re staring down a bankruptcy judge.
