Hail. I don't understand why it would be much different than Dallas County, but she said it's been worse there.

Not that it matters, because these sales agents are likely either clueless or lying, but I would ask how this is anything new. Hail has always been a risk, and insurance companies can't assume one zip code, city, or county is at greater risk than any other. They cannot excuse it on a past year of greater claims because, as we all know, they would never lower the rates in years of fewer claims. An honest agent would tell you that they just want to boost profits or raise executive compensation.

Got it and there is a real possibility of that. We chose to build on the East/Southeast side of Collin County for the storm reason mainly. The worst storms seem to come from the West with places above Dallas and Northwest getting hit the hardest. We watch the news stories about the heavy hail and it does appear the worst seems to come across Hwy 380 from the West and also affecting areas to the South of it.

Although the insurance companies may be trying to save on pay-outs that seems a bit shortsighted. Hail storms are a really weird event many times. On an inspection after a very recent, heavy hail storm I was on a roof that had absolutely no hail damage. Looking around that house though many house roofs in a random pattern were trashed from the storm.

Unfortunately the insurance underwriters use all kinds of excuses, including this one, to boost profits by lowering pay-outs. The Texas Department Of Insurance (TDI) should be doing their jobs to prevent this but unfortunately too they don't.

I used Goosehead insurance. It was a great decision on my part. Just send them your current policy and they will shop around and present you your options.
