Dragonflies don't bother me, nor do the ciccadas or ladybugs. But, I can't stand june bugs or walking sticks. Those things completely freak me out....childhood trauma of having them crawl in my hair or elsewhere on my person. Oh and spiders....While I have always lived in the south and southwest and have a healthy appreciation for them as beneficial for the environment I can't abide a black widow. I have found several ginormous ones in my garage and back porch over the past several years. oooh, I just got a shiver just typing this!

Dragonflies are pesky, but not really afraid of them. I did have one giant looking dragonfly come after me once in East Texas, but was actually the size of a small bird, so not sure what it was.... I thought june bugs were the same as ladybugs? I like the daddy long leg spiders (Opionids) and the little Thomasidae spiders. The black widows and fiddlebacks (Brown Recluse) are the ones to watch out for!

Yes, now I remember the difference. We call the june bugs just brown beetles, and they are very pesky critters! But my cat takes care of them quickly. The june bug and ladybug are related to the cockroach! All in the Order of Coleoptera.

I wish my kitty would..but she's a little overweight and 12 years old. Just just looks at them, then looks at me, then looks at them...like a tennis match. LOL!

I had horses, and thus horseflies around when I was a kid. They really did/do hurt when they bite: Horse-fly - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

My mom thought I was having a seizure. She laughed like crazy that I was scared of a walking stick....which had crawled up my pants leg. Evil little $%&^#@! (the insect...not my mom) To this day I can't go near one.

You poor thing. I would have needed counseling. I have had my "seizure" like moments when I thought a bug was on me. funny in hindsight but scary as ever when that thing is on you (or when you think its on you)

Yes, horseflies are evil. Have never been bitten to my recollection, but they do seem to follow and hover. Also they carry diseases. Shoot to kill! Or at least get out the flyswatter.

Man, how annoying! Luckily I have two cats. My wussy cat notices the bug first, and shows great interest in watching it, but doesn't even stick a paw out.

Once the other cat knows about the situation, he dispatches the bug very quickly. I prefer it when he eats the evidence, but unfortunately he only likes the crickets. So I still have to pick up the dead june bugs and moths.
