Welcome to Texas indeed!

There are lots of great schools in Plano and Frisco ISD's. One of the trade offs to moving to Texas you get more bang for your buck for square footage. However, you may have to overcome some sticker shock for insurance and property taxes.

Hubby was in the Frisco area today driving the neighborhoods. He stopped in at a few open houses in the Starwood subdivision. One of the realtors suggested he also look in Southlake. Glad I am aware of the high(er)! taxes there because of this board.

Yeah - dangerous tumbleweeds? (Spoken like someone from out of state who has no idea about Texas!)

I am not real sure why but I think it is to compansate for having no State Tax. Just a guess on my part though.

Huge property damage claims coming from hail storms rolling through population centers... hurricane damage on the coast... the occasional tornado... and lack of industry oversight by the state.

Good one - I remember seeing a house advertised with hail resistant roofing which would result in a 35% discount on your insurance - I'll remember that. Thanks!

Hail damage is a small part. The biggest reason is more those people down in Austin. They have fat pockets from being led around by the nose by the insurance industry - lobbyists. Just look at who the big donations roll into from for the political candidates and parties. Sad, very sad. They ask for an increase and they get it. We are footing more of the bill for other areas than most realize. The insurance lobbyists will say they need an increase or they are going to have to pull out of the state. You don't dare file a claim or even call in something just to see if there was damage. Even that is a mark against you. Shop around. Find a good company that is worth it but does not charge an arm and a leg. We recently switched from State Farm to Farmers and saving a bundle on homes and autos. There are better rates out there you just have to find them.
