I may be returning to Dallas on business travel next month and have some down time to tour the City. I am thinking of going to the Texas State Fair.

As a southern black man will I be comfortable there? Or is it mostly for whites or the local Hispanic community?

I once went to the Minnesota State Fair and I was the only black man there. What a shock!

OHMY!!!! No, you will NOT be the only black person there. You will see a good mix of everything and everyone. I can not think of one single group of people that would feel out of place at the State Fair. Moderator cut: referring to a post that has been edited The group of little elderly ladies that go almost everyday or at least once a week to the fair. All kinds of families on their school designated "fair day" from upper class to impoverished. Groups of older kids from every ethnic group imaginable and mixes. Young and old couples. It is a LOT of fun too.

You'll be in South Dallas.... trust me, you wont be the only black person there. Especially when the State Fair Classic between Grambling and PV (I plan to go) comes to town.

You will be about as comfortable as you can be, unless you eat way too much.

Fair Park is located in south Dallas, believe me, you will not feel out of place. Actually you will see a blend of numerous people, blacks, whites, asians, hispanics. Hopefully the weather will cooperate when you plan to attend and you have a good time.

The Texas State Fair will have lots of exhibits (mostly new cars) and the midway. The exhibits will be more white than black. The midway will be exceptionally black.

Not a problem, just experience.

The State Fair will be about as diverse as you can get. The fair itself is located in the all black part of town but you will see a little bit of everything. My only suggestion is to park in the State Fair parking lots. Those privately owned parking lots outside the fair are not the saftest places in the world. Other than that bring a healthy appetite and some comfortable shoes.

There are people of all flavors at the State Fair. On DISD (when the local school district gets in free) day it will be, as they say, "majority minority".
