I was surprised to see TX just barely go to McCain last night, by only 11 points. Compared to NY, which Obama picked up with over 25 pts.

Is TX moving towards being a tossup state in the next decade? I thought it was a deep red state. But looking county by county, I see McCain just eeked out victories in many places.

The political makeup of the Dallas area is broad. You have extremely liberal pockets and extremely conservative pockets. Better to look at it by regions. The makeup of Dallas itself overall seems to be Slightly left of Central. Moderate Democrat, not liberal. The northern Suburbs are still very conservative especially on social issues.
As an economic conservative, social liberal guy myself I'm fascinated by Dallas politics right now. Dallas is looking as thought it is traveling the opposite path to myself. Dallas seems to be becoming politically a lot like a Rust Belt state. Socially conservative, Economically left of center.

Really liberal Californians would never DREAM of moving to Texas. Believe me, I know. I am related to a lot of them.

True.. most live in the far flung suburbs of the metroplex. They like their big houses and acre lots. lol

As a transplanted New Englander, I'm absolutely delighted that residents of Dallas County voted for Obama in numbers comparable to those in several counties in my native Massachusetts. For example, Dallas County, 57.5% Obama and 41.9% McCain. Norfolk County, MA, 58.5% Obama and 40% McCain. Here's to making Texas blue, or at least purple!
