Left work at 11:00 and now I'm working at home in my PJs. The roads around Legacy/DNT & 121 were fine for the most part, but I did see a van slide a little. The bridges had quite a bit of accumulation though.

It might also be the fact that it's a smidge more than an 1/8 of an inch.....

I also left at 11 and set up at home. Cozy and safe, I do not envy anyone having to drive right now.

My colleagues were laughing at me bc I was the first one to leave the office, saying "the philly girl is freaking out in the snow!?" lol. WELL, in Philly we treat roads before, during, and after. People are careful, and don't act like they are exempt from winter weather.

I know that DFW is not used to the winter mix as much, however, it seems that every year there is SOME sort of ice/winter precip going on.. so why won't they invest in some equipment and trucks to prepare for this mess. It's kind of silly to me, considering there are accidents all over the place after 1 inch of snow. Maybe if things were treated better, there would be less.

Just speaking for myself...as a taxpayer in Richardson/Dallas County/state of Texas, I'd be pretty pissed off if the state sunk millions (more than they already do) into de-icing equipment/materials, snow plows, trucks, etc. just for the couple of days per year of icy/snowy weather that we experience here.

This is Texas, not Wisconsin.

DCCCD has announced that it's closed the rest of the day today and tomorrow. I needed to go up there and take an exam tomorrow. I'm wondering if they closed the testing center (probably so). Now I'm going to have to miss some work to take it Monday.

On the bright side... It's snowing! I think I'll go outside and play in it now.

I see your point. I say this because it seems there is more chance for ice here than snow, and if they were able to treat the roads a little before it would make a difference. I also think that people just need to try to stay off the roads and stop thinking that they can roll down 75 at 45mph in their BMW.. which I've seen quite a bit.

Not the best use of money to buy equipment that MIGHT get used a couple of days a year for that a little ice/snow. That is why folks don't buy snow tires. Big expense for little potential use. They can't use snow plows because we have those awesome buttons on the road that are easier to see in the rain than just white stripes painted on the pavement.

Yes snow tires would make zero sense. Even I never had those living in PA for years. I do like the buttons on the roads rather than white stripes!
