For example, let's say I get onto the tollway from Parker Rd. and I want to drive down to Mockingbird Lane in Dallas. Do I just pay the 60 cent toll at Mockingbird Lane, or do I have to pay every toll in between, which would cost around $5.00?! Also, do you have to pay the toll going NB and SB, or do you just pay going one direction? 40-75 cents at each exit seems reasonable, but if I have to pay each toll every time I pass by the toll booth (like the 35-70 cent tolls on the Parkway in NJ which can make your commute several bucks each way), that's pretty crazy.

Also, do the tolls on the George Bush turnpike work the same way?

No, you just pay the toll at the booth you enter/exit from, and any that you actually drive through along the tollway. This is the same on GB tollway and all others in the area as well.

So, in your example, you would pay to enter the tollway at Parker, at the big tollbooth just before the Beltline exit, and at the Mockingbird exit - total would probably be about $2.

You can reduce your cost by getting a tolltag. NTTA charges less for using a tolltag than they do for cash. You can get details about that at their website http://www.ntta.org

I'm looking at their website right now. So it looks like I pay at my entrance ramp, exit ramp, and anything labeled "Main Plaza" (which are all 75 cents) in between. Correct, right? Thanks..

That's correct. Some entrance and exit ramps have booths, others don't. Typically, the exit ramps right after a main plaza and the entrance ramps right before the plaza don't charge you, since you are getting dinged at the big booth.

The NTTA has place Tollbooths between each major cross highway. For example, there is a tollbooth at Wycliff between I-35 and I-635.

Here's a link to the NTTA's interactive map of the DNT and PGBT. You can clearly see the Mainline Toll Plazas and Ramp Toll Plazas.

http://www.ntta.org/AboutUs/Roadways/SystemMap.htm

I found the map....

Here's a link to their current toll rates. For two axle vehicles rates are $0.75 for the Mainline Toll Plazas and $0.40 to $0.60 for the Ramp Toll Plazas. TollTag rates are $0.10 cheaper for each toll. Rates for more axles are available through the link.

As long as people who don't have tolltags get in the cash/make change lanes and out of the express lanes before the solid white lines start, it is okay. Being cut off by people who can't read the two big green signs stating that if you have "x" you need to be in "x" lane is scary.

Did I imagine it or did they say recently on the news that the NTTA was going to eliminate the operators at all the toll booths? I think they're trying to get everyone to buy a tolltag. Couldn't that be a mess at some stops if people don't have the right change or can't figure out the machine... etc...
