Here is the criteria -

* 4 tired "stay at home" moms (who are never really at home) seek weekend away without hubbies, kids and pets
* looking for "relaxing" retreat - not big into shopping/spa stuff
* don't want to drive more than approx. 3 hours
* place with some privacy (cabin, lake house)
* room with a view - lake, trees, river, wildlife -4 legged type only
* within 30 minutes of a town - want at least one meal out and a place to restock the beverages

Alright, where should we be looking? Planning to go in Feb.

Thanks.

It will be cold or cool and possibly wet anywhere you go w/in 3 hours of Dallas in February.

1. There is Broken Bow, Ok up in Beavers Bend where you can rent cabins.

2. Of course Galveston on the beach if you want that is more like 4 to 5 hours away.

3. Shreveport is an option if you want gambling.

4. Hot Springs, Arkansas on either Lake Hamilton in the city (I can tell you some places on the lake that don't feel like your IN a city or even a town) or up the road at Lake Ouchita (Mountain Harbor is a great place to stay up there).

All good suggestions. Also Hodge Podge Cottages at Caddo Lake.

Been many times with my family but have always thought it'd make a great girls trip. Jefferson, Texas is pretty close for your meal out, it's a really great old southern town.

Went to a neat B&B with hubby a few years ago near Mineola in East Texas. It was called Fall Farm..I remember at the time thinking it would make a fun girls weekend.

Another (more remote) place to rent cabins is at Robber's Cave in Oklahoma - cabin #1 has a grand view and big stone fireplace - kitchenette with dishes, pans and cutlery. You might also check out Tanglewood Resort at Lake Texoma (Texas side).

Other suggestions are great - Hot Springs came to mind first for me also - there's horse track up there where Bill Clinton's mom used to hang out..

Also Jefferson, Texas is pretty cool.
