Hello All,

I am new to the forum so be kind if I ask somthing that has been answered. My family is looking to relocate to Dallas in about a year. I am currently an elementary teacher in the inner city of Philadelphia. Due to loans I need to teach in a title I school. I am willing to teach 1-6th grade with my heart being in 5th and 6th. How hard will it be for me to find a job in the Dallas ISD? I know many people say it is very difficult to teach in TX. My question is, is that just for the nice school districts or is that for everywhere? If it is really hard to find a job, does anyone have any suggestions as to open fields for teachers in TX.

If you have a heart for inner city schools then parts of Dallas and Ft. Worth schools are crying for quality teachers. Some of the suburbs are hurting finance wise and making some cuts, however it doesn't mean you can't find a job. It just means it may take a little longer. If you have strong credentials and interview well, I think you could find a job as a teacher in Dallas or surrounding areas. There are plenty of title schools in most of the districts within the North Texas area. Best wishes in your search and keep us posted.

Elementary is the toughest teaching job to get. The teaching job market is awful, including bad neighborhoods, so don't count on getting an elementary job anytime soon.

Ignore him, he's mad because he paid for alt-cert without doing due diligence on the marketability of such a program.

Dallas ISD needs teachers of all sorts, it's the wealthy suburbs where finding a job is difficult.

No don't ignore him. Even getting a substitute job on a daily basis in DISD is no sure bet and the cushy burbs have nothing.

DISD laid off 200 teachers in Sept 08 and the ripple effect has not receded. 100 teachers a year from all over the world post the same question as you on the city-data forum.

Jobs around Dallas are sparse and JS1 is exactly right that the hardest ones to get are the English and K-5's.

Explore Ft Worth and the western burbs. They may have more possibilities.

There are two kindergarten jobs open on the DISD website right now.

Most schools try to fill next year's vacancies beginning in April......don't wait til the end of the school year! You can track current openings at individual campuses and and file an application for all of
Dallas ISD at this website:

Jobs (http://www.dallasisd.org/employment/ - broken link)

If you see a position or a location that interests you, just call the admin office and ask if that's a Title I campus.....or call the central office at the ISD and ask if they would (I know they could if they would) give you a list of Title campuses.

Best wishes to you....good teachers are needed in those locations.

Im in HR for a district in one of the areas mentioned on this thread if you want to know more about becoming a teacher send me a PM and Id be happy to help. First thing to do is go to www.sbec.state.tx.us (http://www.sbec.state.tx.us - broken link) and look at getting your certificate recognized in the state of Texas.

Don't assume that the "wealthy suburbs" dont have Title 1 schools. All the brouhaha in PISD with the realignment was directly driven by the desire not to lump all the Title 1 MS into one HS.
