OP how much is your trash and sewer verses actual water usage?

My base starts out at about $55 before I use any water.

#3 SERIOUSLY? You REALLY drag a gallon home from work?
#5 SERIOUSLY SERIOUSLY?

Ok, ummmm, a gallon of water weighs 10 pounds. Doesn't driving that 10 extra pounds decrease your gas mileage? Seems you can't have it both ways

We don't go overboard to save water, but here's a few little things we do that help:

Don't let the water run and run and run while brushing teeth. Instead, fill up a large glass and use that to rinse, etc.

Same with shaving. Fill up the basin with hot water to shave, then, use fresh water for final rinse.

Don't let the water run and run while rinsing dishes. Instead, fill up the sink with hot, soapy water and use that for rinse, then put in dishwasher.

Don't use the toilet as a trash can! Dispose of tissues, etc, in a trash can with a lid. Unless someone has an infectious cold, then, its worth it to flush the contaminated tissues instead of letting them fester and spew germs all over the house.

So, it adds up---about $25--$35/month So, now, invested in mutual funds, for about 30 years, you will be rich!

Don't put on the hot water to wash your hands. By the time the water reaches hot, you're through, anyways. Of course, this saves gas, not water, but still, a savings.

I figure these little measures save maybe $5--$10/month

Also, we decreased from 2 trash cans to one. The extra was costing us another $10/month. Instead, we use recycling whenever we can for things like aluminum cans, plastic jugs, and make sure to break down boxes and smash cartons, otherwise you're paying to throw away air

I've been in my home since November, and my water bill last month was $257. I was really surprised as my first bill was only about $90. Then as I thought about it, I think that my sprinklers might have been the issue. As I was trying to figure out my system, I had it on an automatic timer where it was watering everyday (friend told me I should do that since it was a newly built home and the sod was new). I haven't been running my sprinkler much this month at all, so I'll be able to see if the bill goes down. If it does, then I know the sprinklers were the reason.

Richardson. 2 adults. We water everytime it's allowed during spring, summer and fall. We use soaker hoses as needed around foundation ( usually 2-3 times a week during the summer).
We shower at least once a day and laundry happens twice a week(2 loads each time).

Our bill is usually about $55 in the winter and around $80 in the summer.

We moved here from New Orleans and were astounde by the water bill. In New Orleans area, the water bill comes every 3 months and it's usually like $30. And that includes trash pickup/recycling too.
