My wife and I currently live in upstate NY. We both are just about fed up with insanely high taxes and gas prices. Heating our small house is rather expensive too w/ kerosene almost $4/gal.

We're looking at the Dover area and on south.

Our biggest concern in the climate. How hot and humid does it normally get in the summer? I know it doesn't get very cold in the winter and not much snow happens, unless some nor easter comes around.
Actually, cold won't really bother us too much since we're used to -10, -20 or -30 temps in the winter. We've also seen near freezing in July and August and snow on Mother's Day and in September.
I do know it'll be much cheaper to heat but A/C would be higher.

What are some decent areas around? We don't want to be right in the city. Quiet neighborhoods and secluded country areas are perfect.

How are jobs in the area? My wife is big with insurance, office work and banking and I'm a professional automotive detailer.

What is traffic like? I grew up in the Baltimore/DC suburbs so I learned to drive with bumper-to-bumper traffic and lots of dumb drivers.

Is there a population of those rice-rocket street racers? I can't help but laugh at them and make fun of them.

The Delaware Area is awesome. You get warm in the summer, and cool in the winter. I hate hot weather and I'm never overly bothered with the temperatures. There is virtually no traffic. You can take an expressway to beat stop lights, but there is no real traffic. I would say with the location you'd want to live toward Sand Town, a little past Camden, 20 miles from Dover. That would give you a nice piece of land in between each house. Also from Dover it's only a easy 50 mile drive to the Beach. Dover, and our surronding towns are great. Your not to far or to close to malls, restaurants, and the beach.

By "Delaware Area" You're talking about central DE. Delaware is not all the same, you know. It's not THAT small.

We've been in Middletown (about 25-30 minutes north of Dover) for 2 summers. We moved here from NoVA, and I've found the summers to be comparable.

Traffic is nowhere near NoVA type traffic. We had been warned by several people in DH's office that traffic is terrible, but it's really laughable in comparison to what the traffic from where we came.

The folks talking about little or no traffic are obviously not from the beach area. Take some time to checkout slower/lower. Nice climate ,nice people. However not a whole lot of jobs.
