I am scared to death. I have 2 wisdom that have to be removed and hopefully after they are removed my teeth will stop hurting all the time.
Has anybody ever had them removed. I am so scared.

There really isn't much to be afraid -of-. If the teeth are -not- "impacted" then the toughest part of it will be the novacaine injections. They sting, and they do a few of them. But the sting wears off in seconds and within a couple of minutes you're all drooly-numb.

Then they yank the teeth out, there's no pain but your jaw might get a little sore from being open so wide. Once the novacaine wears off, the holes where the teeth used to be feel all pulpy and sore, and your jaw will feel sore. It's not excruciating, it's not scary-sore. A couple tylenol extra strengths and an ice-pack of frozen peas on your cheeks are likely good enough. Then you take the packing out and rinse with salt water for a couple days, avoid touching a toothbrush to the gum where the teeth were pulled til the dentist says okay (or until he takes any stitches out, which aren't usually necessary).

If they -are- impacted, then it's a little more complicated and will probably involve novacaine -and- possibly a sedation drip of valium or similar. The end result of -that- procedure is typically more painful, but still not scary-painful. You'd still take tylenol but if you have a low tolerance for pain they might give you a 2-day prescription for percoset or vikodin or similar. For this, you'd expect to be out of work for just a day, and sore for at least another day after that. Having it done on a Friday morning will -usually- mean you're back to work on Monday.
