I went to my orthodontist last week for my usual braces checkup and he noticed that my front right tooth(#8) was not turning. After doing an x ray on it, he said it looked like I had had a root canal done on both teeth. I did have that tooth knocked out when I was a teenager, but more than likely my idiotic mother chose the easier(and cheaper) route. I didn't even know that both of my front teeth had had root canals done on them. Since the x ray was not that good, the dentist said that it's possible that since the tooth was knocked out that it tramatized it and when they put it back in, that my body attacked the root and absorbed it into my body and that it now might be fused.

I was this would have been checked BEFORE I got braces...so now he said that he is going to get my bottom teeth looking fine(and they do look GREAT btw), but as for the top, he told me I have only a few choices.

He said that I could:

1. Leave them- I will at least have my original teeth, but this stupid tooth sticks out like a sore thumb. The rest of my uppers weren't so bad, but when I take pics, it REALLY stands out, kinda drives me crazy.
2. Get implants done- I would have to replace probably both teeth, VERY expensive. I called a different place yesterday and they wanted 3000 PER tooth. I don't think I will have the money for that.
3. 4 tooth bridge- He said that with this he could saw down the other two teeth and then take out my front two and then put the bridge inside which would hook on to what I think would be my incisors(the teeth by the front teeth). The price is cheaper 1200, but the thought of me not having my original teeth, scares the living crap out of me!!

He told me that I could keep the original teeth, but without a root, they could break at any time. Can anyone advise me on what to do here or has anyone been in this situation? My mom had HORRIBLE teeth, and now I am bearing the brunt of bad genetics..

You're far better off getting more professional opinions than relying upon just one. Think about it this way, everyone is different and although what you get here might come from those who say they this or that, the facts are that none of them will be close enough to being the same that it makes any sense to use that information.

Do yourself a huge favor, get at least two more professional opinions before throwing caution to the wind and depending on the mostly made up stuff you're likely to read after this.

OP my wife had a similar situation, one of her front teeth was 180 degrees from the others. Our family dentist sent her to an orthodontist specialist and it took about a year with some kind of custom wire adjustment every 2-3 weeks and it turned and straightened out perfectly.
You may want to seek out another orthodontist's opinions some have better knowledge or specialties than others. It's your teeth and you have to live with them forever.

Definately get more opinions. That should go without saying.

However, Option 3 sounds like the worst to me. You're compromising two other teeth. I'm not a dentist but I've been consistently told by dentists (my own as well as friends of mine) that you should try to keep your original teeth alive and well for as long as possible. Compromising them goes against that principle.

My tooth is out probably a third of an inch. It kinda aggravates me. The ortho said that since the tooth that is turned does not have a root, it probably was absorbed by my body and that now the tooth has fused with my jaw . There is no way to fix it. I either deal with it or take it out. That's what he said. I did call other dentists, but they want $70 just to look at me and tell me what I should do.
Try a dental clinic.

Yeah I was told the same thing too, however, the ortho told me that my other front tooth(which was moving back) also seems to be lacking a root. He told me that the teeth could break at any time.

He asked me if I had ever had a root canal, I don't remember though.

Is that one of the places that does it for real cheap?

Have you asked or has it been suggested by the dentist to have the tooth removed and an implant put in it's place. I'm sure with all the new modern dentistry around some solution can be accomplished. I've seen where some people had a tooth removed or a large gap between teeth and the orthodontists eventually got them to meet together and look real natural.

He suggested the bridge and I asked what it was and he explained it. When I asked if he would do implants, he said that he did not usually do that and that he honestly did not feel comfortable doing it. Also, implants are a lot of money and time. I would have to wait pretty much 10 months to a year to do the process..I don't know if I want to wait that long honestly.

Root canals are very evident on a x-ray ;so I have to wander about any dentist not seeing it on a x-ray.
