I'm wondering if, as a whole, the area of downtown Denver and the areas of Arvada and Westminister are safe. In my city, there are areas you DO NOT venture into for safety reasons and they are pretty clearly defined (all the locals know the areas).

I know that Arvada and Westminister are "older" but I like that-I like 50's and 60's slyle homes and I love a fixer upper-but are there pockets to avoid? I should also mention that affordable to me is getting 3bd/2bth home for 200K or so which I have seen many on Realtor.com but not sure if the "areas" are safe.

I'm visiting next weekend and want to look around should I be wary of any areas in the places I mentioned?

I think you will find that Charelston or most other east coast cities arent anything like Denver. North downtown or near Colfax ave., in my opinion arent so great but further south has some nice areas. Arvada... I would just get some distance from I-70. Westminister... west of Federal isnt bad. I havent been in Westminister for a few years. You will probably find the bad areas arent as common or as bad as out east.

Arvada has been ranked as one of the safest cities in America. Check out the western part of the city which is extremely safe, has good schools and is a wonderful area to live (bike trails, close to Apex Center, Arvada Center, foothills, etc.)
