I know Denver is not as diverse as other western cities. San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, San Jose, Oakland, etc. Although, it does seem more diverse than other cities of other states in our region. For example, Denver is a bit more diverse than Albuquerque, Colorado Springs, Salt Lake City, Tucson, and a little more than Phoenix. Denver is almost as diverse as Las Vegas, except Vegas has a bit more of an Asian population. Not to say Denver doesn't, because Denver does have a significant Asian population, but not as much as Vegas.

I'm not saying those other cities don't have diversity, because they do, but not as much as Denver it seems. I would also disagree that Seattle and Portland are more diverse than Denver. The asian populations are significant in those cities, but are really only equal to that of Denver's African American populations. Also, besides Asian americans, those cities have significant but pretty small African American and Latino populations. So, I would say that Denver's extremey large Latino population makes it more diverse than those cities.

So, Denver is pretty typical of a city in the SW states...Large Chicano and immigrant populations. However, it seems like Denver's African American community of Northeast Denver goes unnoticed somehow.

What would you say about Denver's demographic diversity, compared to other major cities in our region (Colorado Springs, Albuquerque, Tucson, Phoenix, Salt Lake City)?

Your perceptions are not backed by data. Denver is in the middle of the cities you listed. Diversitydata.org, a diversity website run by Harvard shows us that the diversity of the metro areas are as follows:

Least Diverse: SLC metro area is 74.9% white, 16.6% Hispanic, 1.3% Black, 4.4% Asian, and 1.9% multiracial
Colo Spgs metro area is 72.7% white, 14.7% Hispanic, 5.6% Black, 2.9% Asian, and 3.4% multiracial
Denver metro area is 65.8% white, 22.5% Hispanic, 5.3% Black, 3.7% Asian, and 2.1% multiracial
Phoenix metro area is 58.7% white, 29.5% Hispanic, 4.6% Black, 3.4% Asian, and 1.9% multiracial
Tucson metro area is 55.3% white, 34.6% Hispanic, 3.2% Black, 2.6% Asian, and 1.8% multiracial
Most Diverse: Albuquerque metro area is 42.2% white, 46.7% Hispanic, 2.2% Black, 2.0% Asian, and 1.7% multiracial (and 5% native american)

BTW - both Seattle (68% white) and Portland (76% white) are both less diverse than Denver.

The cities of the southwest (Phoenix, Tucson, and Albuquerque) are more diverse because of their history as Spanish-settled cities and/or their close proximity to Mexico.

I was talking about the CITY, not metropolitan area. I think we have conflicting data, because I found other places that listed the metropolitan areas a little different. Anyways, regardless, Denver is still pretty diverse. Just because ABQ has a metro area % of 42% white, does not make it more diverse. For example, its Latino and White, with a significant portion of Native Americans. Denver is Latino and White with a significant portion of African Americans and Asians. I am just saying, diverse means a pretty significant portion of ALL races. No city in this region has that.

The actual METROPOLITAN DEMOGRPAHICS (not city demogrpahics) of the cities are as followed:

Albuquerque: 44.5% Latino, 2.94% African American, 1.94% Asian, 5.84% Native American, 44.78% White. Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowed

Tucson: 33.16% Latino, 3.27% African American, 2.61% Asian, 3.23% Native American, 48.73% White. Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowed

Phoenix: 31.12% Latino, 4.29% African American, 2.97% Asian, 2.29% Native American, 59.32% White. Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowed

Salt Lake City: 15.75% Latino, 1.41% African American, 3.97% Asian, 0.98% Native American, 77.89% White. Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowed

Denver: 22.51% Latino, 5.37% African American, 3.52% Asian, 1.03% Native American, 67.57% White. Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowed

Colorado Springs: 13.12% Latino, 6.19% African American, 3.17% Asian, 1.10% Native American, 76.42% White. Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowed

The CITY (not metro area) demogrpahics are as follows:

What's your point? I mean, what is your intent on starting this thread? It seems pointless.
