Thankyou to all, this helps a little. Planning a move soon. From Dallas to Colorado. Arvada area. Can anyone tell me about the school systems? Highschool...that is. Again thanks for the info.

Denver:

Pros
1.Affordable
2. Outdoor activités (as long as you have hours to devote to that)
3. Lots of microbreweries
4. Pot legal
5. Produce can be good (and cheap)

Cons
Unless you're a snowboarding/skiing person or a stoner or otherwise disinterested in conventional success, Denver sucks.

1. the fashion is lame (if you can even call it fashion)people go out in sweats and workout gear which is cool for a while and then it's really boring an frustrating
2. it's not as affordable as it used to be
3. you have to get up at 3:00 am if you want to hike a 14er (or hike anything substantial really)
4. Lightening stokes kill
5. Occasional tornado
6. The type of people you meet will be... well, you'll see.
7. Food sucks- people love terrible food here. I guess that's a western thing... but seriously.. the great restaurants are far and few (and trust me I've tried at least 70 by now)

As someone who's been here since age 11...

Pros:
1) Live and let live politically and socially
2) Reasonably low crime rates, even in the worst areas.
3) Views of the mountains and the city downtown can be breathtaking on the right day.
4) The winter has lots of snow, but also has lots of reasonably warm, sunny days.
5) Great concert venues.

Cons:
1) If you don't love pot, microbrews, and the Broncos, you're going to have a hard time fitting in.
2) Housing is getting very expensive.
3) Wages are rather low.
4) Traffic generally sucks.
5) Smells like a forest fire much of the summer.

I don't know what people mean when they try to stereotype an entire metro area. I moved to Denver from So. California and people seem the same to me. Maybe if you were going from Phoenix to Long Island or Boston you would notice a cultural difference in people, but really, people in Western cities are similar. Jerks, nice people, and everything in between.

Agreed. Some of the eastern/midwestern cities are a little dressier in their dress, but not everywhere. Someone on one of these Denver threads mentioned people going shopping in pajama bottoms. Well, there was a whole thread on the Pittsburgh forum about people wearing such garments in public. You probably wouldn't see that in downtown Pittsburgh, but neither would you see it in d/t Denver!
