Oh yeah, sorry my bad, i guess i failed to recognize that you live in the magical nyc neighborhood of houstapolis, that transforms itself into houston, texas in the summer and minneapolis, minnesota in the winter.

Adviso numero uno -- invest in some more long underwear before moving to denver.

Default East vs West

I lived in NJ for 2.5 years. I moved to Denver. There is absolutely no comparison. Now, some people don't like the fact we don't have the foliage of the East. And some complain about the dry air. When I lived in NJ I hated the humidity and the fact that you didn't see the sun from the end of Oct to March. When it gets cold back East, it stays cold. Here, we may get snow one day (it is usually gone by the next day) and it could be sunny and 50 the next day. Because it is dry, that 50 with the sun shining and no wind (the wind doesn't blow much), you can go outside without a jacket.

Other reasons: Denver is substantially cleaner, it is easy to get around, real estate is way cheaper, excellent roads, schools, and spread out (not crowded). Oh, and the people are so a lot friendlier here and you can actually get service in a grocery store. In other words, they actually bag your groceries for you and take them to your car. You know what I mean, don't you?

Main thing about Denver as others have mentioned is "lack of humidity". I'm from CT and move here several years ago. At first it's great having no humidity when moving here from the east coast but eventually at least for me it's now the opposite extreme where I feel like my skin is turning into leather due to lack of moisture. I could not stand rain when I moved here and now cannot wait for a rainy day which we get about 2 per year. I"m in the process of moving back east and can't wait for humidity and rain again or a cloudy day. Essentially the sun shines almost every day of the year....... good luck with whatever you decide.

I understand your problem; I grew up in New York and been here almost 30 years. I missed overcast days when I got here and the smell of rain. I have a dry skin problem with a problem of dermatitis. Now, at my age, I have severe arthritis and damp weather makes it worse. So, the dry skin is easier to manage with moisturizers than the pain, stiffness, swelling of arthritis. I can live with the low humidity but I cannot live with damp, either warm or cold. Cold and damp is the worst. Here, it is mostly dry, warm and even when it is cold, most days are dry and low humidity. Just something to think about when you age.

I too, missed the rain when we first moved here (from Champaign, Il, originally from Pittsburgh). But believe me, you get used to this climate fast! The predominantly clear, sunny, dry days here are wonderful (today notwithstanding; I just told my DH it's a Pittsburgh day here)!
