Griffen confuses me...German beer hall with foods from Germany (check), Denmark (okay), and Turkey...WHAT???? Turkey? How did that make the list? I'd like rouladen with a side of spatzle and could you throw on a few dolmas. Or could I get a doner kebab with sauerkraut and I'll wash it all back with a Carlsberg.

Odd combo to say the least!

On the surface it seems odd, but Turkish immigrants are a sizable population in major German urban areas. Some of my favorite foods on my last trip to germany were Turkish street foods. There's even a few Turkish beer halls in Germany.

In my mind it is similar to what the local british pubs do when they serve curries as a reflection of the contemporary ethnic makeup and modern fare of urban Britain.

In both cases traditional British and German foods will dominate but some outside food influences have been added to the mix in both countries (for the better) and restaurants should reflect that if they want to stay true to the contemporary culture and cuisine.

Thank you robertgoodman! That makes so much sense now. It has been a decade or two since I've been lucky enough to spend any time in Germany, and when I was there, it was generally in rural areas for work.

I appreciate your taking time to explain for me.
