All of you who keep defending Denver as a "Western" city should read the original post

The OP ASKED If It WAS CONSIDERED A West Coast City not a western half of the United States city

The answer is simple

NO... It is not a west COAST city... PERIOD

To be fair, Seattle, Portland, Oakland, and San Jose aren't West Coast cities either.

Right. They are not, but they are very close. San Jose is to the Coast what Denver is to the Mountains.

But then people started arguing that it wasn't a western city at all, so people started debating over that claim. Most of us were saying Denver isn't like a West Coast city. It was when people started claiming that it was Midwestern and not Western at all that the debate about being in the West cam about.

The People's Republic of Boulder might have some similarities with Seattle. But then again so to most university/research towns, across the nation. Raleigh, Ann Arbor, etc.
It's not like Denver an Seattle are Twins or anything, but the culture of Seattle and Denver are much more aligned with each other than the culture of Denver and Kansas City are.

What are you trying to say?

Some other city in Colorado is a conservative city, so Denver must be conservative as well?

Comparatively? That's probably more Denver has in common with Seattle than it does with KC culturally. Once again, im not saying Denver and Seattle are twins, and Denver shouldn't aspire to be like Seattle (or vice versa), but Denver is closer to being a Seattle type city than a Kansas City type city. That's my point of view at least.

I think if you want to compare cities... then post in the City Vs. City Section. Seattle Vs. Denver would be a good place to start. Not sure how that will go or how those possible compare to each other... but that's where it belongs.

If you want to generalize Denver as one type of city or another, then use general comparisons not specific cities, that's what gets people all twisted up and defensive.

Denver IS the West.

The hallmark values of the West are self-reliance, hard work, and distrust of large institutions -- especially political
institutions.

Yes, we are on the high plains, but the high plains of Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado are not for farming without irrigation. The plains are for ranching. One of the icons of the West is the cowboy.

We have a history of mining with its boom and bust nature that we know so well. Whether it is metals, oil, or natural gas, with have a strong link to the earth.

We are politically independent. No political party has a majority here. We vote people and issues.

We have churches, but religion doesn't define our population.

We have a large Hispanic population whose ancestors were the original cowboys.

It is not about physical geography or location. It is our mindset. We are Westerners because we believe we are.

It is why we have a huge stock show and Indian Powwow every year.

It is why we name our sports teams Broncos, Nuggets, Pioneers, Buffaloes.

It is why we have the most honorable Native American mascot in the nation at Arapahoe High School.

Denver itself has an influx of people from other parts of the country which makes it more of a collection of cultures. But at its core, Denver and Colorado are the West.
This.

You might have a point on the fitness piece, though. According to the American Fitness Index by the American College of Sports Medicine (2015 survey), Here are the top 9 fittest cities in America.

1. Washington, D.C. Washington, D.C.
2. Minneapolis, MN. ...
3. San Diego, CA. ...
4. San Francisco, CA. ...
5. Sacramento, CA
6. Denver, CO. ...
7. Portland, OR. ...
8. Seattle, WA
9. San Jose, CA

You are right, no KC on that list.
Yeah, conservative states always go to Obama lol!
