I was expecting good food LOL. I was never told it was for kids, just that it was a Colorado institution that everyone really should visit. This was way before South Park. I thought it was a family Mexican restaurant with great food & unique, cool entertainment. I went with another woman in her 40's & she's the type who thinks Chili's is good food & even she thought it was some of the worst food she'd ever had.

Since OP & his group are all adults in their 30's, I think he said, I can't imagine they'd enjoy themselves at a pathetic, old restaurant with really bad food & cheesy entertainment. Never had a margarita there & their sopapillas were actually good.

Some of our favorites place to go out around town.


Highlands:

Avanti: multiple fabulous food vendors, rooftop bar with great views of downtown

Recess beer garden: great outdoor space

Williams & Graham: awesome cocktails, mellow vibe l best for smaller groups 2-4 people

The Way Back: good food & solid cocktails,

Lodo/union station:

Terminal bar: in union station, the Cooper lounge upstairs is more upscale

Cruise room: in oxford hotel, classic Denver bar, great cocktails

El Chapultepec-iconic jazz dive bar that's been in Denver for like 80+ years,

Ophelia's electric soapbox-cool space, live music

Rino:

I second the brewery tour through Rino idea, there are a ton great brewery's within walking distance of each other.

The populist-great courtyard/food/drinks

Los Chingones-good marg's & rooftop,

Pon Pon bar-hipster heaven, good drinks

Nocturne-great jazz bar

Bar Fausto-great drinks

The source-good restaurants & Rhino Yacht Club bar there is fun

Larimer lounge-live music

Meadowlark-live music

Millers & Rossi art gallery has a new hidden speakeasy in the back that's supposed to be cool

Uptown/cbd/golden triangle:

Union lodge #1: great drinks, very chill

Ace eat serve: ping pong & drinks, fun vibe

Art hotel rooftop-big fire pits, nice downtown views

Retrograde-speakeasy hidden inside an ice cream shop, fun drinks

South broadway/south pearl:

Punch bowl social-bowling, pool, restaurant/bar, etc, not my favorite vibe but lots to do

Adrift Tiki bar-cool cocktail lounge

Izakaya Den-great sushi & upstairs bar area is fun

Cherry Creek:

Halcyon hotel: rooftop bar is fun w/great views & also a speakeasy in the basement called B&GC

The bar at little Ollies can be fun place
