I have friends coming in from Miami and I want to take them out to a nice clean dance club here in Denver.

I was thinking VIE but it has closed.

Any recommendations?

Platinum 84 is a very upscale club in Denver. Probably one of the best in Denver. Not the greatest location but the club itself definitely makes up for it.

I tried that route, but in Denver some things labeled as nightclubs are actually just a bar.

Isn't that a strip club? I am looking for a place a couple can go dancing and have drinks in a clean environment.

In reading your post, I was thinking nothing we have can compare to Miami upscale nightclubs so you should take them to the Grizzly Rose so they can enjoy some western flavor on their Colorado vacation. Get dressed up in some western outfits (big belt buckles, sparkly jeans etc) and have a blast. Unless they absolutely despise western music and then it wouldn't be a good idea.

If they don't know how to country western dance they have free lessons.

I agree. Always a bummer when people try to recreate their home on a vacation. Better to enjoy the local flavor.

Are there any shows playing at Red Rocks while they are here? There are quite a few EDM shows up there these days.

This is one of the missing pieces of Denver nightlife...although it doesn't seem like people here really care for that type of enviroment anyway.

The best dance clubs are not upscale. They are more of a dive bar atmosphere, where most people will not be dressed up at all. If you can find a special event or promotion, there are some pretty amazing after hour parties in the Rino neighborhood. But the problem is that you have to kind of look for them, or just ask around the right people. The best night I had in Denver was a party where you had to text a number, they sent you an address (which was in Commerce City), then follow directions to the entrance of a warehouse.

Then you have Lodo, specifically the Market and 20th area. While this is the closest to what you are looking for, this is probably the most toxic part of Denver. There is a lot of energy there, especially after a Rockies game, but most of the clubs just are not that fun. Lodo's, Viewhouse, The Tavern, Cowboy Lounge, etc, are basically the same franchised bar/clubs that you can find in any other cities downtown. I also never can figure out what, or how much, these places charge for cover. Sometimes it's $5 for everyone, sometimes it's $10 just for guys, other times it is free...can never really tell. I swear sometimes they just charge whatever for whoever they want. It's typical college bros, way too drunk 21 year olds, tourists, bachelor/ bachelorette parties, etc. Lots of puking and fighting in the streets at bar close.

South Broadway and LoHi have some great restaurants for dinner that you could dress up for. But afterwards, most of the bars that are within walking distance don't have any dancing.

Colfax probably has the best, and most fun, bars for dancing. These are definitely dive bars and no one will be dressed up. Also expect to meet plenty of interesting characters that stumble in from the street.

A decent night club to me is a good brew pub.
