I would also recommend Stapleton and/or South Park Hill. Stapleton will get you close access to the University Hospital and new VA, is very family friendly, has good schools and is close to the museums. I do understand emm74's point about giving the nod to South Park Hill given that location gets you closer to more centralized facilities like Rose and Jewish (and is even closer to museums and parks).

Having said that, considering you will very possibly be here only 2-3 years, you may want to hold off on buying and just rent in the event the location you initially choose doesn't work out for you, but I don't know your specialty or length of training, so perhaps you'll be here longer. Sounds like you are considering locations that all have outstanding facilities and something to offer, so I'm sure it will all work out for you.

Would need some more info. to answer ...

1. Where are you coming from?
2. Do you like living close to the mountains?
3. Do you like living close to the ocean?
4. Would you say you are in to outdoorsy activities?
5. How attached are you to public transportation?

If you think about it ... Raleigh makes 1,2,3 moot questions.

To me, yes, Denver is a very family-friendly place.

While Denver doesn't have a ton of green space, the city's park score ranking is 29th and over 90% of the city's residents live within a 10 minute walk of a park.

As Phil correctly stated, Denver has the foothills and mountains nearby. Within a 60-90 minute drive of Downtown Denver you can get to at least a dozen state parks in the foothills and plains, a multitude of county open space parks, and countless hiking and biking trails.

Using one of the OP's other possibilities - Raleigh is 28th, but only 57% of the city's residents live within a 10 minute walk of a park.

Plus, to me, RDU is in a bit of a no man's land. It's 1-2 hours from the ocean and 2-3 hours from any mountains, and, the city's hot, muggy summers are a major turn off. We do get hot in Denver, but the lack of humidity makes a 95 degree day in Denver feel like an 85-90 degree day in a more humid climate like Raleigh's.

I've lived in the upper midwest, and by comparison Denver's winters really aren't that bad. We do occasionally have brief cold snaps, and we have a long snow season, but the dry air, frequent sun, and daily winter highs in the 40s, 50s, and even sometimes 60s & 70s make it tolerable.

We live in Denver metro so ...
