formally, a response to the mighty covid pandamical, airCare has temporarly closed many of their testing stations. They closed my fav location for sure. I had to drive to the Denver SE station way out east on Evans / Iliff.

Once you found the Denver SE ststions the lines were LONGGGGG.

no more. Seems all the airCare stations are now open
call verify tho.

Their website gives you an idea of how long the waits are in real time. I went a little out of my way to one and it was a 15 minute wait, then I had to return to retest and it took about the same.

I so despise the completely useless emissions testing that our legislators have imposed upon us.

Agreed. Someone must have gotten a nice "donation" for this absurd monopoly.

Would make a lot more sense to have safety (brake, tire, insurance verification, etc.) inspections.

Back in Virginia we had safety inspections to go along with the emissions check. Every six months we'd go to a filling station that had a couple of service bays and a person would check tires, brakes, lights, signals, wipers, horn, mirrors, emissions, etc, and then place a sticker on the windshield if you passed.

They used to do the whole gamut of safety inspections in Colorado. I wonder if anyone knows when or why that changed.

Having lived through many years of brown cloud, I can understand why they still do emission checks.

Nope.
Data show safety inspection are worthless.

airCare is needed if your car is >7years old
than your older car is every 2 years

Colorado could be kicked back cash from airCare for every $25 test

Other states give private businesses free money from the scheme and its a free for all. Go to get a smog check in Nevada or California and they are done in 5 minutes, but you can't leave before they attempt holding you up for an oil change, wiper blade replacements, air filter, car wash, etc.

ok:
yesturday i went to my local airCare facility. There were very few vehicles there so maybe the word is not out there that AirCare has re opened. All good.

than i went to a Denver County auto registration office. There is a office near by my house. They were only letting 2 peeps in at a time and the line was looong out front.

So:
the smart citizen my consider the on-line option for registration till covid thingy works it self out more better.
