My wife & I are in our mid-60's, fairly active and adventurous. We like to visit cities to get a taste for their vibe.

I'm planning to surprise my wife with a short, 3 day visit to Denver in August. t's a short flight for us. We would rely on public transportation. I'd like to stay somewhere downtown amid an area with restaurants and pubs and perhaps some cultural scenes.

I plan on attending a Rockies game while we're there as well, probably on our last night in town.

Looking for recommendations about where best to stay, and what to visit. Also, best local restaurants, pubs, museums, etc.

I’ve stayed at several downtown properties over the years and the Hyatt Regency across from the CCC is probably my favorite.

We enjoyed the Oxford Hotel, an oldie but a goodie and we ate in their art deco Cruise Room, fashioned after a 1930's ocean liner. Lite rail nearby at Denver Union Station which also has a hotel. The "A" rail line runs between Union Station and Denver airport. Walk to Coor's Field and a hundred eateries from there, plus the 16th Street pedestrian mall with no cars and a free bus service.

There are homeless people in the area, as in most big city downtowns.

Stay within blocks of the 16th street shuttle.

I like the brown palace.

Mike from Back East gave very good advice; I would also recommend going to the neighborhood just north of downtown, RiNo (stands for River North) which is party central for the under-40 set, so kind of fun to check out on a hot summer night. But I'd go there in the day, and have lunch/a drink at the restaurant on top of The Source hotel. Probably the best view of the city and the entire Front Range of the Rocky Mts.

Default Thanks for the Input!

Thanks to all responders. I appreciate the input. After considering our options, we've made reservations at the Oxford Hotel.

A very good decision. You'll like it. Be sure to check out The Cruise Room.
