Currently live in Minneapolis. Love this area but our winters are brutal, I am looking for a milder climate. Love to go skiing also, so Denver may be what we are looking for. However, I have a few questions:

1) How come home prices in Denver are so low? Lots of foreclosures, short sales? How is the historical home appreciations for the metro area?

2) How is the job market in Denver? A co-worker said that the job market in Denver is not good at all. I am in finance and she is in HR, I do not expect to find Wall Street jobs in Denver, but we absolutely need a decent job market.

3) For those like myself who like to go skiing, I hear the traffic on I-70 during skiing seasons is outrageous, any truth to this? I have skiied Copper Mountain and do not remember much traffic, educate me please!

Truth? Yes! The weekend ski traffic on I-70 can be terrible. Here is a recent thread you may want to read: //www.city-data.com/forum/color...-corridor.html

Home prices seem to meet what you get in the rocky mountain area. Utah, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico all have urban/suburban areas with comparable home pricing/value.

As far as appreciation, I did a little researching when looking at homes here and they appreciated and depreciated at a much lower % during the boom/current bust than most west coast metro areas. Seems resistant to both ups and downs and generally very fair pricing. For whatever reason demand seems to be right on target to keep those prices fair and stable.
