Absolutely yes.

Why?

- It is the capital and largest city/metro in Iowa.
- It has a metro population nearing 600,000. Boise is about the same size and it has its own thread (very similar to DM in that it is the capital and main city in its state)
- Smaller metros like Anchorage & Savannah have their own thread, why not Des Moines?
- DM has a lot of growth and expansion to discuss and a separate thread would be helpful

We discussed this a few months ago.

Is Des Moines ready? Sure.

Should we? I don't think so. I think the only logical argument behind it is that Omaha has one, so we should aspire for one too.

I'd rather be one big happy family here. There's not that much traffic to really warrant it, I think. I wouldn't kick and scream if it happened, but I think at this point things are fine the way they are.

I second ElRhino's sentiment exactly. Absolutely couldn't say it better.

To counter some of what DSMGuy said, there are cities comparable to (even larger than) Des Moines that haven't split into their own sub-forum: for example, Wichita and Little Rock.

I don't think it is necessary. If you want all or mostly Des Moines metro dicussion, there are forums already on other websites for that. I like the fact that all of Iowa is discussed together here.

I agree, Des Moines should have its own sub-forum...

Not only because of the above mentioned reasons but because Des Moines is really a separate entity than Iowa itself, much the same way Omaha and Nebraska are not the same entity!

I don't think it is necessary. Just keep IA one big forum.

I see no further point to this, El Rhino, this is your cue.

Once DesMoines has one CR, Davenport, Waterloo, Dubuque will all want one too. I say leave it the way it is. It isn't like life in Des Moines different from any other city in Iowa. It's pretty much an overgrown Waterloo, Cedar Rapids or Davenport.
