Hi, I'll be visiting Downtown Detroit for a business meeting, but I would like to take a side trip to Windsor. Any good suggestions for a good hotel or tourist attraction? I will have time to visit Caesar's Windsor for sure!

Good luck getting home. I made the mistake of taking a day trip to greater Windsor when I was in Detroit a couple years ago. Despite being an American citizen with a passport, it was apparently unbelievable that I would do such a thing. I was ordered into the office for interrogation while U.S. immigration and customs agents searched my car. It was a rather terrifying experience. I had no idea if they were planting drugs in my car or what was going on while I was being interrogated inside. Maybe just try a day trip to Ann Arbor instead.

If you insist on going, you'll have a good time. Windsor is actually not such an attractive city compared with Detroit (you don't really have the beautiful old buildings that exist in Detroit). On the other hand, downtown Windsor actually feels like a city. The storefronts are filled with shops, restaurants, pubs and art galleries and the sidewalks are crowded with pedestrians. There is a nice local history museum and lengthy river front park with great views of the Detroit skyline. The casino is fine, but really just another casino. There are some sites to see farther south. There is an historic fort on the river in a small town southwest of Windsor, and the Lake Erie shore and wine country is an hour south. When you arrive in Windsor there are well stocked visitors centers right off the road from both entry points (the bridge and the tunnel). You can also pick up Canadian dollars there, though I've heard the US dollar is almost universally accepted in the area. Some Canadian currency makes a nice souvenir, one their bills features hockey players! There are two malls, a smaller one on the east side, and a large regional mall to the south. Also stop by some local institutions, like Giant Tiger, Your All Canadian Discount Store; Zellers, and Canada Tire. Good luck.

You will need either a passport or enhanced driver's license to cross the border.

I live between Vancouver and Seattle on the West Coast and cross the US-Canadian border weekly with no problem. I have a NEXUS card so that helps lol.
