Do you think Tyree would mind if we set our 5th wheel up in his neighborhood for a week or so?
Is this a viable option, aside from zoning, would we be able to safely set up a base there while we reaquaint ourselves with Detroit the great improvements that have happened since we left in '09?

Your kidding right? A fifth wheel in Detroit!?! LMAO!!!!!!!

Hell, I remember not long ago I was delivering some lunch meat not far from downtown and the cops stopped and woked me up to make sure I was armed. They told me if I wasn't I would have to move!

Jesus Christ man, I hope you are yanking chains here, because no one is that stupid!

Park a fifth wheel in Detroit... Only on a movie set with 24 hour security.

He's being sarcastic. The OP is a Detroit native who likes to come to this forum and express his frustration with the city. He knows Detroit better than most of us who post here.

I think you would get a better experience pitching a tent in Roosevelt Park.

Now, now. It has been several years since I have set foot in the heart of the city. All I hear is how much better it is in Detroit. I read an article awhile back about a guy who set up a travel trailer on the east side and is living in it. Pretty sure he is squatting.

I was somewhat hopeful the city had actually changed. I am anxious to drive through the old neighborhood there at Fenkell and Telegraph. Not sure how well Brightmore has faired recently. I am also looking forward to visiting Sherwood Forest to see a few friends who are holding out anticipating a turn around. My wife was there over spring break and said I wouldn't recognize the area.

Though the idea of picking up a lot cheap (other than the outrageous taxes) and camping out does sound adventurous. Remember that John Schneider (Dukes of Hazard fame) made for TV show (Dream House) where he went to NY City and wanted to build a home and all the troubles he had?
That pioneering spirit that makes America great.

SLeeping in a tent is nice, but at my age getting up off the ground is just a PITA....
