Are there any SAFE areas in Detroit where housing is ridiculously cheap (Dearborn: foreclosures, mortgage)

I was reading some of the threads and saw about houses for $20,000 or so. Not being from the area Im just going to assume that I wouldn't want my family anywhere near those neighborhoods.

So are there any houses in the 40,000 - 50,000 range that are family neighborhoods or is that just not a reality for the area.

Wow. I just saw a really nice looking huge house for $100,000. To bad the taxes on it are 407 per month. Ridiculous.

Having to make a $1,000+ monthly payment to a bank on a $100,000 is absurd.

cheap safe housing -hmm -You should be arrested for Felony Foolishness- Believing that there is a safe inexpensive neighborhood in Detroit. Then attempt suicide and you will have a private cell -very safe -very cheap - no taxes.

So 100,000 for a very nicely sized 4 bedroom house isn't cheap? There was a post between my 2 posts that was deleted. This 100,000 house was in a neighborhood that was stated as family friendly.

100,000 for a house IS ridiculously cheap. It's when you run into ridiculous taxation that problems occur. Hmm. I wonder why NY, MI, IL and CAL are having such problems. Let's pay 500 for my mortgage but 400 a month for taxes. Sounds like a place I would LOVE to move in to. The problems with these states that are falling apart is VERY apparent.

You have to keep in mind that the taxation issue has to do with infrastructure upkeep as well. Keep in mind that all of those states have major cities and issues that range from snow removal in the case of the northern states to patching infrastructre from acts of god like earthquakes in CA. I wouldn't say they are necessarily falling apart in the case of NY, IL and CA, because they still have large populations and unlike MI, you can still find work in most parts of those states. Actually, some of the warm weather states are seeing a slow down in growth and the sprawl has left some areas empty due to foreclosures.

you can get a good deal on a house in Detroit in a good area such Indian Village 60 k 70 80k but the taxes are sky rocket high

That I think was one of the areas listed in the post that is no longer there. The other area was something like Rosedale or Rockdale. That area is where the 100,000 house was.

Dearborn area is a good way to start,Downriver also. I just bought a house myself in Brownstown at a real good price .I lived 10 years in Detroit west side ,I wouldn't go back

If I were to move into Detroit, and it was a consideration, that is where I would be (Indian Village). Taxes and schools are the concern, but overall, that's my favorite residential area in the city.
