Being in a forum full of metro Detroiters I realize i'm a bit late to this game but. How have I never heard anyone talk about the city of Detroits motto?

Speramus meliora resurget cineribus -We hope for better things; it will arise from the ashes.

This has been the cities motto since written in 1805 after the city was leveled by fire. I can't think of anything more apropo. Another reason why I love Detroit. Am I missing something, did the motto change and I'm even more late to the game than I thought?

I could . The Detroit area is the mothership for what I do, I get recruiting calls all the time, and I have thought about it. My youngest sister is in her 2nd year at Wayne State as well, so It would be nice to keep an eye on her. I think life changes like that can be daunting to anyone tho.

Amazing how well they predicted the future back in 1805.

First time I heard it I think. Interesting how accurate it is for Detroit's current situation right now.

The motto was changed in 1967 to Si istum vis tollere, furantur which translates "If you want it, steal it."

My Latin teacher taught me that.
I ended up flunking that class and my teacher ended up doing a 5-10 stretch at Leavenworth.
