City Council: Detroit needs $10-billion bailout | Freep.com | Detroit Free Press (http://www.freep.com/article/20081112/NEWS01/81112065 - broken link)

Am I the only one that finds this outrageous?!?! There is absolutely NO reason that the council would ever need that much money, no matter how elaborate their plans for improving the city. That is, unless they decide to use it for salary increases or city owned Navigators . I find it ridiculous that virtually every segment of both the public and private sectors are asking for bailouts--it's just appalling. I guess personal responsibility is a thing of the past. I'm especially angered because my community, Orion Township, has managed its budget very well and spent conservatively. We have millions of dollars in cash and absolutely no debt, and if we can pull that off, so can Detroit. I'm sure I'm not the only one tired of hearing their miserable excuses for their pitiful management.

I don't find it any more or less outrageous that the $700 billion bailout for the banks and the $25 billion bailout for GM. Once it catches on that there are hundreds of billions of dollars for the asking, there will be many takers.

Hmm...what's out debt? About half a billion? I certainly wouldn't object to this...
