Hi all, we're moving to Warren Michigan area in January, can anyone suggest a nice, safe area to live, I've heard St. Clair Shore is good, anywhere else? No kids / 2 dogs

thanks, any info would be much appreciated.

I take it you have a job in Warren? St. Clair Shores is definitely a nice city. Quiet streets, typical middle class bedroom community. Warren also has some nice areas. Most people on here will tell you to stay away from Warren since it borders Detroit, but it is perfectly fine, especially areas north of 696. I particularly like the areas of Warren by 13 mile and Hoover over towards Schoenherr. Warren and St. Clair Shores are referred to as bedroom communities and more suited for families. Are you single or looking to start a family?

I used to live in St. Clair Shores until a couple years ago. It's a great city with lots of ammenities and I high recommend it. I'd look in the 48081 zip myself for its proximity to the 696/94 interchange but 48082 is nice too. I'd steer clear from 48080 as its getting a little seedy in parts. You can score some awesome deals in St. Clair Shores right now.

There's nothing "seedy" at all about the 48080 zip code. What he meant to say was that zip code is along 8 Mile. If you don't want the stigma of living near 8 Mile then don't move there. I tried buying a nice brick ranch at 8 Mile and Beaconsfield and the bank took it off the market. 8 Mile and Mack and over towards Jefferson are great areas of St Clair Shores. I live in Harper Woods which is south of 8 Mile so according to him it's probably beyond seedy and just straight ghetto but it's a great neighborhood. After I lost out on the Beaconsfield house I jumped across 8 Mile to Harper Woods.

The 48080 zip has had increasing crime over the past few years. Harper Woods is not "straight ghetto" but it's more like Roseville or Eastpointe than Grosse Pointe Woods or St. Clair Shores. There are some nicer areas in the '80 that border up to GP but for future resale value it would still be better to look in the '81 or '82 as the South Lake school district is not nearly as good of a school district as Lakeview or Lakeshore.

If you start looking at real estate is SCS, you will find that they are advertising houses as "North St. Clair Shores" for the exact reasons I said the '80 was getting a "little" seedy. It has absolutely nothing to do with its proximity to 8 Mile.

South end of St. Clair Shores has had a less than desirable population moving in and causing a rise in a crime, much like the city of Harper Woods. SCS towards Jefferson is nice on the south end, on Harper, not so much. 48081 and 48082 are where its at right now. Harper Woods is on a fast decline unfortunately.

So you have crime statistics that show the 48080 zip code is any higher than the others?

You mean north SCS and south SCS has nothing to do with people trying to distance themselves from 8 Mile?

Not sure how accurate this site is about crime, but 48080 is almost indentical with 48081 and 48082. Vehicle theft and and property crime are slightly lower in 48080. Saint Clair Shores, Michigan (48080) Community and Location Information | PropertyMaps
