normally i don't eat pasta but i cheated today for lunch and had a tin of pasta(about 12:30 PM) from the pizzeria with eggplant no cheese. about 90 minutes before coming home(5:00PM) i had a tin of garden salad, dry with no dressing (always oil & vinegar in the past)

when i got home my glucose was 157 (I take amaryl and metformin). i know it will fall quickly but i want to know is this normal at 157 considering the above? i did not take the metformin yet today

with out pasta my readings will usually be between 90-100

I notice that when I don't take my metformin, it takes a long time for spikes like that to come down. If for whatever reason I don't take my metformin, I have to eat very low carb (as in, under 10) in order to keep my numbers normal.

It just depends on how long after you ate before you tested, mine can jump to 200 45 minutes after eating but it will be down to 115 two hours after eating, that is pretty much normal. Always wait for 2 hours after eating to test, my doctor claims that is when levels will drop and steady out.

That very well could be a good/normal reading. Peaks and Valleys are different for each person. My doctor had me testing myself every two hours for a 2 week period. He did that so he could figure out the best approach on insulin and meds. Once that was established he had me test 4 times a day. Before each meal and then at bedtime. More adjustments were made to meds. Now I test twice a day and adjust when needed.

I would love to have a reading like that after eating pasta.

A reading of less than 140 is a good reading. The closer to 100 you get the better so 88 is very good for you.

However, it varies from person to person. At my age and weight a reading of 140>155 is normal for me. If I get below 100 ,or very close to it, I go into diabetic shock quick!
