For those who have Type I and Type II Diabetes that have to constantly test your blood sugar with needles there maybe is good news in the near horizon. Scientists at Baylor University are developing a thumb pad sensor where all you do is insert your thumb in the monitor and it measures the blood sugar by Electomagnetic Waves.

Its already being tested on people and they are hoping to perfect it. Here's the story for those interested.

Lets hope they are eventually successful. Even with all the caveats, it would be a wonderful way to enable people to track blood glucose more frequently!

True, but the difficulty of reading blood glucose through the skin is also a serious obstacle. In fact, the device being worked on doesn't actually measure the BG, just extrapolates it from other measurements.

Nanobeak Inc., an MSGI subsidiary, is a nanotechnology company focused on carbon based chemical sensing for gas and organic vapor detection. Nanobeak will take the prototype handheld sensor, which measures acetone levels with a simple breath, out of the laboratory and into the marketplace. The first step involves product testing which will be done in conjunction with a major hospital network in the United States, followed by licensing discussions with the top pharmaceutical companies.
