Some of you might be interested in this new research out of Mass General in Boston. It affects Type 1 and it seems promising.

Interesting. It will be great if this turns out to be effective, but of course more study is needed at this point.

That is interesting: a vaccine for tuberculosis may control blood sugar.

I watched on CBS news the other day about how a polio vaccine may lengthen the life of those with a vicious type of brain cancer (the type Senator John McCain has). The modified polio vaccine is injected into the tumor, which somehow causes our natural immune system to then attack the cancer.

It is all way beyond my ability to grasp. Those with Type I diabetes have a pancreas that does not produce insulin (hence, insulin shots). The article mentions how this modified TB vaccine somehow causes development of some type of hormone, which apparently can control blood sugar levels (after three years, apparently). Two shots during that three year period, apparently.

It is very interesting that scientists are experimenting with known vaccines (TB, Polio, and probably others) to fight unrelated disorders.

It is indeed a brave new world.
