Just reached 1 year on this medicine. Had moved down 1 dose for maintenance and just got my latest 3 month blood work back. Saw improvements in my lipid panel, glucose remains stable, kidney function is excellent, liver enzymes are good.

My energy levels are still negatively impacted (a side effect), and I have to add more electrolytes and continue to hydrate a lot more, which has been an area of struggle for me. There's no place to get a quick IV for hydration, like if one has had a bout of GI upset -- my doc's office doesn't have or offer IVs, and even the urgent care places don't offer it. I don't need to go to a hospital, but my doc said that's about the only place, other than looking for one of those pricey spa places.

First, there is such high demand for Mounjaro, they're applying the brakes because they are at risk of running short on product. They're asking pharmacies to prioritize fills for those who have T2D, since that's the only FDA approval they have right now.

In addition, they changed their savings card T&Cs for new patients after 11/10/22 where they will cover $500 off the retail price for those who have commercial insurance, but their insurance does not cover Mounjaro. Average retail price is $980 for 4 pens, which covers 28 days. And the maximum they'll pay is $3,000, which amounts to 6 months of fills.

For those who have commercial insurance that does cover Mounjaro, they'll cover $250 of the insurance copay amount for each fill, up to a maximum of $3,000. This is the better deal for those who are lucky enough to have insurance that does cover this drug.

I'm covered under the old savings card plan for now, and my savings card will expire 6/2023. After that, I'll need to switch to something else my insurance will cover.
with my medicare part d drug plan which i pay 13 dollars a month for , my deductible with trulicity is 500 dollars then 11 dollars month

so i paid 500 up front for the first month then 11 for my renewals

Mounjaro was not available on Medicare plans, only those with commercial insurance can take advantage of the manufacturer's coupon and for a more limited time than a year ago.

My PCP couldn't get Medicare to cover Mounjaro for T2 so she prescribed Bydureon. I just started it at 2mg today. I don't know if I'm supposed to stop the Metformin so will call. I had been 6.3 for years on Metformin then went up to 6.7 this time around. Also developed gout in my toes. Diet is pretty good, it'll have to be better. I don't drink alcohol or such. I am very discouraged.

Many Medicare plans do not cover Mounjaro. Some plans now do. I'm not on Medicare, so I have no insight into who covers for T2D and who does not. A year ago, it didn't seem any Medicare plans covered Mounjaro. My commercial insurance only added this drug to the formulary in April 2023. There are other GLP-1 drugs -- you can look at your medicare prescription formulary and see which drugs of the GLP class are covered. There may be 3 or 4 of them.

Ah, didn't realize Bydureon is a GLP. Very good! Best of luck to you.

My last A1c test was 5.3. Whoop-Whoop!

Reduced my Metformin dose by 25% and will see how that affects my next test end of the year. My doc doesn't want my A1c to get any lower, if possible. Fasting blood glucose continues to test at around 88, which is good.

I'm staying on Mounjaro, for maintenance, at the lower 5 mg dose. Steady as she goes.
