I've been feeling weird and have been having a burning sensation on the top of my feet, only at night. I told my primary (whom I will be changing) that I wanted a HbA1C test and I had fasting labs about 10 days ago. I'm still waiting for the doctor to call me with the results but the secretary told me that everthing is within normal range except the A1C, which was 6.3.
What does this really mean? Am I diabetic? Should I start doing anything special? I will be seeing an endocrinologist on Nov. 30th but it's actually not about this, but about a thyroid nodule that was seen on ultrasound recently (because of a lipoma on my neck) and it's a little large so I need a biopsy for that now.
It seems like I'm just falling apart. Once you hit 50, it's no picnic anymore! :-)
OK, so maybe I was wrong in the other thread about that being a good number. Burning in the feet can - but does not have -be a sign of neuropathy, a consequence of high glucose. But usually only after years of it.
Make sure the endo is a thyroid specialist. Mine wasn't and I had to switch endos. My situation was like yours, nodules discovered by accident, biopsied, and the 1st endo wanted to wait 3 mos. I went to the thyroid specialist and she immediatley treated my over-active thyroid by knocking it down w/radioactive iodine. I feel so much better these days!
I was on and off diagnosed with being borderline type 2 for years. I didn't really take it seriously until about 3 1/2 years ago. I was diagnosed with it and orals didn't quite do the job. I was put on lantis also and got it under control and was on Lantis 2 times a day at 60 units. I just got over 30 lbs off and am down to one shot at nights and gl is 110 down to 80 depending on what I eat. I am on the low end with high blood pressure meds and will soon drop off them alittle. I got about 50 more pounds to lose.
Exercise and food intake/choices are my keys. I do feel a positive attutude is helping too.
I got so mad at the nurse that was supposed to teach me about eating and dieting right when I was finally on the meds. I walked out of her office and never went back. The American Diabetes Association was a joke also, all they wanted to do when I called them for information was sell me a subscription to their magazine.
I got most of my help off the internet and from the Accucheck glucose testing site.
