There is so much more that goes into being overweight, than over eating. Look at Oprah Winfrey, an excellent example of someone who wants to be thin, but can't manage it. There are many reasons people eat, and what they choose to eat. The dynamics of the motivation of a person to get into a car, to go to McDonald's for food, when there is no doubt food in his home to eat is in, and of itself, interesting. But really, is it any one's business how much another person weighs, or what they choose to eat? Who cares?

Default Fast Food

Like any other line of business, fast food establishments have responded to consumer demand by modifying, or adding to, their offerings. To the poster who asked disbelievingly "Who would go into a McDonald's for a salad?", one answer is, I would and I have. All of those places, McDonald's, Burger King, Carl's Jr., etc. now have large salads for around $5, and most of them will subsitute a small side salad for the fries in any combination deal. And of course all of them have diet drinks, so a big sugar fix can be easily avoided.

The words "fast food" have become a kind of shorthand for unhealthy eating, but that is not totally accurate anymore, depending on the choices people make once they're inside. Sure, in general, people who eat in the healthiest ways don't frequent McDonalds, at least not very often, but it's too easy to demonize fast food inaccurately.

Once in a while I go to McDonald's to get something...
but it's not for me, it's for my son. The man could have been picking up dinner for someone else in his family.

Carl's Jr now has a low-carb burger, wrapped in lettuce, no bun, no mayo or mustard, pretty healthy and VERY good quality meat.

And absolutely delicious! I had one about a week ago. They're huge and filling, too.

A person who goes through ther trouble of having weight loss surgery after being so fat and crippled with a broken hip due to his obesity, obviously has not learned how to eat STILL! I don't care if he walked into McDonalds to get a diet coke ( which you know he didn't). There are so many other options at home or even other resturants he could have walked into. But he choose McDonalds? He wasn't even thin when I saw him, but better than before. His whole family, wife and kids are HUGE! This is why people like them are big. Refusing to learn or even make the effort to eat better.
Did you follow him into the store and up to the counter and listen to his order? You don't know what he went in there for, i've gone in there many times to use the rest room, it's not for you to judge why he was going into McDonalds. I think you need to pay attention to your own life and not so much his.
