It took 6 weeks to get overy my sugar addiction! I did Atkins for a few months, with higher protein and seemed to help alot with the cravings. I more advocate the South Beach or Mediterranean diets than Atkins though. The complex carbs also help to decrease the addiction to the pure refined sugar products. And they are everywhere! I now look at every label before I put it in my cart, and try to stay away from the middle isles in the grocery store.

Chromium picolinate is good appetite suppressant, too. It is included in one of my protein shakes and helps alot with cravings, I agree. But can cause stomach problems, at least did for me at first if taken alone. I put some fruit in the shake and that helps.

I also read AnnLouise Gittelman, she has a great book out on glycemic index, which is getting more notoriety now, especially for diabetic diets. Thanks for reminder, Ruralgal. I think Cabot also has a book out on fat flush and liver cleanse diet which is helpful.

Not sure if giving these references is allowed? Am sure mods will let me know!!

This is very true. After I eat, I brush, than when I want a snack, I deny myself because I don't want to brush again so I do with out.

My thing used to be ice cream. Now it sounds so disgusting to me. I make my own "ice cream" treat now, I switched to frozen bananas and Silk in a blender. Or frozen strawberries. Yummy! I no longer have any cravings for any processed sugar what so ever.

Yeah, I know the feeling. Ice Cream is something that I can eat everyday of the week. Not good!

Meat, vegetables, eggs, cheese and nuts don't have sugar. You can get carbs from vegetables without the sugar.

I am just the opposite, the texture of stuff like ice cream, shakes, pies just does not do it for me. Now candy and doughnuts on the other hand.....keep me away.

Eating at night, if I have eaten a good dinner I know that the desire is all psychological.
