Dieting is very individualized. I think that there are variables in metabolism, and how food is processed based on biochemistry in the body. Because of this, there really is no one diet for all. I know for me, that at my age, to lose weight, carbs need to go. I follow a modified Atkins diet, and weight melts off.
Either way, doing core exercises will help you lose that belly. And go for the "six pack"! Good luck!
OP: you definitely need more produce. It looks like you are getting 2-3 servings per day. You want to up this to at least 7, preferably 10 servings per day.
It sounds like a lot, but it is pretty easy:
breakfast:
1 cup of berries
steelcut oatmeal
Add: 2 tablespoons of chopped nuts to increase satiety
Add: cinnamon for antioxidants
Snack:
Piece of fruit or veggie sticks
handful of nuts or dip your fruit in 1 tbsp of peanut butter
Lunch:
Salad: 2 cups of lettuce, 1 cup of another veggie + protein + whole grains + 100 calories worth of nuts or olive oil dressing or avocado
Snack:
greek yogurt
1 serving of fruit: small banana, berries, ....
Dinner
protein
whole grains
2 servings of veggies (1 cup of cooked veggies)
Dessert:
Fruit
This gives you 8 servings of fruits and veggies in a day. If you are creative, you can sneak in more produce: start dinner or replace a snack with a veggie soup. I can easily have 3-5 servings of veggies in a salad, I just throw on lots of green beans, snap peas, bell peppers, artichoke hearts, cucumbers or tomatoes. At dinner, add a veggie to your starch or grain -- pilaf with spinach, peas, onions or peppers. Mash cauliflower into your potatoes. Roast carrots, peppers, sweet potatoes. Use a marinara or tomato sauce. Make a spinach or pea pesto or dip. Use roasted peppers to make a sauce for your meal. The extra produce will help with your overall health and longevity.
You also might not be eating enough. You should experiment a bit with upping your calories to 1800 for a few weeks and monitor.
Also, what do your workouts look like? Are you lifting weights and doing interval training? These 2 things will help you drop pounds faster.
