Those and calipers are seriously some of the most inaccurate body fat testing tools out there.
sorry. it's true.
The most accurate forms of bf testing would be DEXA or hydrostatic testing. Both have margins of error, but are far more accurate than anything else.
Unless you are an athlete does it matter? Keep your weight down , work out a few days a week to keep your heart and muscles active, enjoy your life and try not to eat too many yodels...you'll be fine.
30% is terrible, nearly 1/3 fat. If you are a male, it is good at 10-15%. You either need to gain a lot of muscle, or lose a lot of fat, or do a bit of both.

Seems hard to believe based on your BMI you're that high. It should be more like 20%. It doesnt vary that much from the formula so I'm thinking your measurement tool was messed up.

You mean the OP? If his BF% really is 30% at his weight and height he would certainly have very poor muscle mass.

My BF% is 10%
Yes, the OP. He'd have to have really poor muscle mass to be at 30%. Basically he'd have to have been kept like a veal cafl in a tight pen. Seems somewhat doubtful.
I think your BF scale is inaccurate. I'm 5' 4" male, I weigh 160.8 lbs, and my 2004 Tanita BF scale says I'm 20% BF. 142 is a great weight. I had to keep frequent exercise to maintain a 140 to 145 lbs for 4 years.
It also doesn't sound like you understand your BMR, as you still seem to think you need to eat calories to match your BMR. Several of us explained how BMR works in your other thread about eating healthy. I recommend going back and re-reading what we wrote in our posts.
i have a very high percentage of body fat according to those calcs (YMCA - 36%! - others around 32%). i've never had a water displacement test.
i'm 5'7" and 115lbs - FAR from obese. i carry all my weight in my trunk which skews these calculators.
i run, but need to do strength training - i have a slight build so i'll never look like a muscular goddess, lol but it should move some of this fat to muscle.

The average body fat percentage for U.S. females is around 32%, with the ideal at 22%. Athletic females should be around 15-20%. You could have an eating disorder if you are below 10%. Remember these are guidelines; your physician should help you determine the ideal weight and body fat for you.
so I just bought one of those omron body fat calculators where you hold on to it for a few seconds and it enters your body fat info.
30% body fat?
30% body fat? No way. That is why I totally and completely reject any electronic scale/device that measures body fat. The ONLY true way to get an accurate reading of your body fat % is 1) through a water displacement test; and 2) complete body fat caliper (pinching) test/measurements done by someone trained in how to actually do it. Anything else may not even get you in the same ballpark or anywhere near where your actual body fat % is.
Saw somewhere recently where the American Dietetic Association (whatever that is) recommends men to be 15-18% body fat and women 20-25%. Athletic individuals would of course be lower 5-12% for men and 10-20% for women.
IF you were really at 30% body fat, you'd be a fat dude.
