American businesses have been on a pendulum when it comes to serving sizes.
I'd say 20-5 years ago the sizes of servings we were being sold, or served in restaurants, were getting humongous: super sized drinks, muffins, sandwiches you couldn't even get your mouth around. Not to mention restaurant portions falling off the side of the plate. CRAZY big. (The health and nutritional value aside)
Now, in the last 5 years or so, with obesity being the new health crisis du jour for everybody to get all upset about, health advocates and others have been pushing smaller servings to get people to eat less -- or at least be mindful of how much they are eating.
I gave up eating packaged cereals years ago, but when I did eat them I loved the granola with nuts and raisin types. The serving size on some is 1/2 Cup or less -- who the heck eats just a 1/2 cup of cereal? or one serving of anything for that matter. Even eating VEGETABLES I eat more than a serving at one time.
I have found that just reading labels has caused me to not buy/eat some things. Not worth the calories.
I have trouble controlling with portion sizes -- so I may indeed eat three snack sized bags of something -- but at least I am aware of that -- versus starting with one larger bag and eating whatever amount.
I think the world is trying to tell you that the frozen lasagna does not fit your nutrition plan!
Knew this already, LOL. Just figured there would be things in that aisle that irritated me when it came to portion and accurate labeling of portions! I was not wrong.
