Thanks Steve. They went on sale today at Amazon, so I ordered them anyway. LOL I bet I'm gonna regret spending my hard-earned money on them, but decided I need to try them for myself.
Gluten free, calorie free, low carbs sounds yummy LOL. No thanks I'll either skip having egg noodles that week or have them once a month. I cannot give up my noodles or pasta.
I finally got around to trying these. Took awhile cuz it's been so hot and I didn't feel like boiling water in my unairconditioned kitchen to blanch them, but finally decided to do it in the microwave.
So I boiled a couple cups of water. Rinsed the "noodles" (Miracle Noodle brand angel hair) in a bowl of water for a couple minutes, changing the water once. Far longer than the few seconds the package recommended. They did smell fishy out of the bag, and I wanted to make certain that was completely rinsed away, especially since I really don't like fish. Flopped the rinsed noodles into the boiling water, but they were cold enough that I felt like they cooled the water off and I didn't think they were blanching. So I put them back in the microwave for 2 minutes until they came to a boil again.
Drained them in a strainer, then dumped them on a paper towel for 5 minutes while I finished simmering the sauce.
Made a simple tomato sauce with canned diced tomatoes, a litte tomato paste, plenty of garlic, pepper, salt, oregano, etc. Altogether about 50 calories.
Dumped half the sauce over the zero calories worth of noodles and voila! a 25 calorie dinner.
The first bite was a little uncomfortable because of the rubbery texture. But once I got past the idea that this was going to be a wheat noodle substitute, I actually thought it was pretty good. I got a big bowl full of food, filled me up, for very very few calories. There was no "off" flavor from the noodles, they were pretty flavorless even eating one plain, but next time I think I'll blanch them just a little longer to see if the texture will improve.
My only complaint is the price - over $3 per package at Amazon. However, I did see these locally at an asian market last week. I'll have to go back and price them there.
I've never eaten No Yolks, but looking at the nutrition info online, No Yolks has 200 calories and 40 carbs and Miracle Noodles have 0 calories and 0 carbs for about the same serving size. I'm sure NY is more like Italian wheat pasta, but I can't eat that many carbs in one day, let alone one meal. The MN are a bit rubbery and stretchy, more like asian glass noodles.
I am proud of you!! You win the award for being able to eat those. I tell you I just could not do it!!!!! I have also tried Julians bakery 0 carb bread, waste of money too!!! Its like eating the worst crap you could think of. Now a good product of a low carb bread is called : When Pigs Fly Bakery!! Its there low carb bread , excellent!!!!
