It definitely gets confused; not the obvious hunger or exhaustion but a lot of times it has the difficulty. If I know I haven't been drinking enough water I'll try to drink first and wait a bit. But for the most part I keep track of the time so I know if it's simply needing to adjust my calories or need to eat if not I'm thirsty or need to take a nap (or go to bed!).

No, it isn't like that at all. The question is posed, what is the water's importance in relation to weight loss, if any? The question is posted, because it is argued that water is a key component to losing weight, so I want to find out if this theory is widely accepted among the population or do most feel it has nothing to do with weight loss, directly or indirectly.

My personal opinion, I can tell a HUGE difference between drinking water and drinking one 12 oz can of Diet soda. I'm not bloated with the water, but I am after just one can of the drink. Does that equal weight loss? Well, I weigh more when I'm bloated than when I'm not, so maybe for me it does? However, that isn't always true for everybody, as everyone's metabolism is different.
The reason water is important for weight loss, is because water is important for health. And health is important for weight loss.

There's also the whole sodium issue - people who eat too much salt, retain a lot of water. So the more water you drink, the less your body needs to retain it, and the easier you will lose that water weight. On the other hand, if you drink too much water, you can get sick. You also have to balanace the sodium and water intake with electrolytes and potassium...

so we return to the general "it's healthy" thing. If you're going to lose weight, make sure you are also consuming adequate water, because it promotes good health, and good health promotes healthy weight ranges.

I've done well with weight loss and management, without ever even thinking of water.
Not sure what all the fuss is about. If someone's dehydrated, well sure their health will suffer, in ways that might have nothing to do with their weight.
There's nothing magical about drinking water, that will lead you to your desired weight.

Bottom line is, if you're hydrated enough, good for you. If you're not, you have bigger problems than being over or under weight.

One caveat: I've found that I sometimes have a tendency to over-indulge in wine, but if I drink a glass of water then I'm good. I've realized I sometimes mistake my water-thirst for wine-thirst. I could see this happening too for folks who drink sugared beverages.

That's because alcohol dehydrates you. When you say you can drink a glass of water and your "good", it probably means you have consumed enough water to counter the dehydrating factors in alcohol. You'll notice whenever you go for that glass of wine because you're thirsty, that one glass of wine never seems to satisfy the thirst.

I actually found drinking a lot of water like is pushed by almost everyone in the weight loss community doesn't work for me at all in fact it expand my stomach and makes me more hungry. I drink my water in the morning before working out and drink diet coke with caffeine as an appetite suppressant.

No one is pushing "a lot of water." They're pushing for enough water to keep you properly hydrated. If you drink so much water that it makes your stomach stick out, then you're drinking too much all at once. Try spreading it out a little throughout the day instead. A tall glass in the morning, a glass before or after lunch, another glass near suppertime, another glass a few hours before bedtime. Or you could just take a few swigs off a half-litre bottle of water every half hour to wet your whistle. The end result would be the same, and you wouldn't feel bloated.

You should drink water because it's good for you, not because you're trying to lose, gain, or maintain any particular weight.

Nope, utter b.s. Water isn't that good for you; it flushes out vital nutrients and minerals. And, most of the water people drink isn't even drinkable. Drink *nutritious liquids* like milk and orange juice, not water.

I have found what works pretty well for me, and drinking 64 ounces a day is determinantal for my weight loss. I end up with a bloating stomach that stretches my stomach and ends up making me more hungry. And then I end up have to go to the bathroom every 30 minutes, WTH good is that? So I just pissed down my expensive vitamins and supplements great idea.

You can do what works for you. For me I get water in plenty of forms frozen vegetables, diet soda. And frankly I probably drink 4 glasses of water a day, but I don't obsess about like some seem to do. I drink when I thirsty. It's cult mentality that you must drink 64 ounces a day. I drink water when am thirsty and it works fine. I appreciate the OP that posted the link to the blog on the water propaganda because it rings true for me.

If drinking 64 ounces or more works for you great than do that.
